Military officials appeared baffled by statements from President Donald Trump Thursday (May 15) that the United States was designing a twin-engine version of the F-35, dubbed the F-55, as well as a “Super F-22.” Some believe the “Super F-22” might be a reference to the proposed F-47 Next Generation Air Dominance fighter. The F-47 is expected to have a combat radius nearly twice that of the F-22, reducing risk to non-stealthy tanker aircraft.
